Are You Fulfilled?

So are you fulfilled?  Are you sure?  I thought I was fulfilled. I thought I had worked through all my inner demons and was happily living my life in peace and harmony, until I heard week one of Oprah and Deepak’s 21-Day Meditation Experience, Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit.

Fulfillment is the goal not filling your stomach - Deepak Chopra Quote - yoursassyself.com

If you too struggle with over indulgence – whether it be as an overeater, shopaholic, workaholic, alcoholic, etc. – this is for you.  While the concepts are more related toward our relationship with food, Shedding the Weight is a metaphor for any area of your life where your trying to find lightness and/or resolution to any toxic residue left from past hurts, etc.  Trust me, I know all too well how frustrating that is, but this series was designed to help guide us through.  So read on to see my insights on each of the 1st seven days and see how it can help you toward a more fulfilled life.

Today kicked off @oprah & @deepakchopra 21-Day Meditation Experience, Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit As someone who turns to food for comfort, I’m excited to follow along to again see food as nourishment vs turning to eating for fullfilment. So join me as we journey together toward identifying what we’re really hungry for so that we can appropriately deal with the toxic emotions, relationships, etc. and leave overeating in the past. “When you give yourself what you really want and need, overeating ceases to be a problem. Fulfillment is the goal, not filling your stomach.” -Deepak Yaaass! Yaass! The present is where it’s at. Not in the resistance and heaviness of past hurts, regrets, and emotional burdens that we wish we could change because changing the past is not the issue. Per @deepakchopra on day 2 of the meditation experience – You are not the person you used to be. Those are only thoughts trapped in your mind, not the reality of the present. When you live in the present, you begin to see the endless possibilities available to you in the here and now. It’s not about what you were, but who you are now, and you’re free to perceive yourself anyway you choose. But you have to begin by examining what causes anxiety in your life, what are your greatest regrets, what or who makes you angry, sad, or feel less than. Once you shed light on this darkness, you’re able to bring awareness and healing to your life. So take a breath and begin to allow the lightness in. #oprah #deepakchopra #meditation #experience #letgo #liveinthemoment

Day 3 of @oprah & @deepakchopra 21-Day Meditation Experience hit me like a ton of bricks. It not only reminded me that we can choose to let go of those negative tapes that play over and over in our heads, but it also reminded me that it’s ok to experience both negative and positive emotions. We just can’t let them take hold of us, buried under years of hurt and pain, keeping us stuck The reality is that feelings change, they come and go, it’s our job to allow stillness and the present moment in long enough to allow that awareness in to let them pass through, and allow love and hopefulness back in. If you follow along you know that I’ve been on a journey toward happiness for the past few years. And I thought I was there, depression, sadness, anger, negative emotions are not a norm for me, so I thought I was on cruise control until Deepak said if you’re feeling complacency, resentment, or dealing with procrastination that’s still toxic residue left from the past and it’s still managing to undermine your self worth on the day to day. Say what, procrastination is still a symptom of things I need to work through? No wonder I’ve felt off. I’ve been procrastinating almost everything in my life since the beginning of the year, but no more. Thanks for that reminder Deepak! #oprah #deepakchopra #meditation #experience #letgo #stopprocrastinating

Day 4 of @oprah & @deepakchopra meditation experience says its human nature to feel like we’re lacking something. Just as much as it’s human nature to seek to fill the void by doing things mindlessly. Whether we do it through overeating, overworking, excess drinking, sleeping, or any other excesses or indulgences, we’re just reacting to feelings of lack. However, when we stop to ask what we’re really hungry for, we can switch from being mindless to being mindful. Once we realize our true self is perfect, whole and complete as we are here and now, we remove that heaviness and allow lightness & fullfilment in. So whenever excess and indulgence kicks in, stop for a few seconds and ask yourself what are you hungry for or lacking right now. Are you bored, lonely, tired, etc seeking stimulation or a warm, satisfying feeling that food, work, alcohol provide? Then allow yourself the indulgence, without judgement, but acknowledge that it’s coming from your separate self, vs you’re true self, which is always fulfilled. Only internal consciousness of your true self can heal emotions, nothing external like a better job, bigger house, etc. ever does. Happiness comes from within, no matter how hard we try to fight it. So cheers to a brighter tomorrow. #oprah #deepakchopra #meditation #experience #liveinthemoment #wanderlust

Yes Day 5 of @oprah & @deepakchopra meditation experience continues to affirm that self-awareness has the power to affirm our truths and free us from unconscious behaviors. Our bodies want to be connected to the natural rhythm and patterns of movement, relaxation, and sleep, however our habits and behaviors sometimes work against us creating a mind, body confusion which sends us back into unconscious behavior. However self care, awareness, and being present in every moment are the only ways we can see through the confusion of everyday life. I know personally my lack of sleep is the biggest culprit toward my overeating. To help overcome this, Deepak suggests I work toward returning my body to it’s natural rhythm of waking and sleeping by following a daily routine and reducing chronic stress. Then I need to insert awareness on the habits and/or behaviors I keep falling back on which perpetuate this sleep less, eat more cycle. Oprah summed it up best when she said – Mentally, we are hungry for nourishing experiences. If you are emotionally nourished, the physical cravings stop. However, you can’t change what you aren’t aware of. This means that you must connect your hunger to a real need that can actually be satisfied. That is how we end the hunger dilemma. Talk about an aha moment. #oprah #deepakchopra #meditation #nourishment #sleep #awareness

I hope you had a great weekend! If you’re like me, you may have spent some time on the road today, and may have even heard the same radio ad I did for yet another quick fix weight loss product guaranteeing to help lose weight without any side effects. And although my ego would love for me to fall for that quick fix I know that no over eater, alcoholic, workaholic, shopaholic, you name the ailment, can be fixed by trying to fix one part of our lives without focusing on the whole. That’s exactly what @oprah & @deepakchopra meditation experience focuses on today. It encourages us to stop looking for the quick fixes and start digging deep to find where we have an inner sense of lack, so that we can begin showering those perceived weaknesses or faults with the confidence, compassion and kindness of our true self, which is perfect, whole and complete just as we are. Thankfully meditation allows us to bypass the denial and defensiveness of the ego, by allowing us to sit in stillness, closer to our true self. That’s the only thing that can bring balance back into our lives so that we choose to do what’s best for us, versus trying to find the ultimate quick fix for our ailments. It’s a heavy task for sure, but one that I’m actually ready and willing to take on. Join me and let’s see where this leads us! #oprah #deepakchopra #meditation #journey #quickfix #weightloss #balance
