Finding the Peace Within

Have I mentioned how much I love doing all of Oprah and Deepak’s 21-Day Meditation Experiences? Well, Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit is by far one of my favs because it is working wonders in getting me unstuck with my emotional eating and finding the peace within.  If you struggle with any negative habits (overeater, shopaholic, workaholic, alcoholic, etc.), I suggest you keep reading.

Finding the Peace Within - Mahatma Gandhi quote - yoursassyself.comIf you missed the first seven days of this series, don’t worry, you can catch up on the gems shared during the first week here. Then keep reading to see my daily thoughts on week two of this series.

Restoration, healing and recovery are happening inside of us all the time, but we should totally be helping them along so that we don’t deplete ourselves faster than we restore ourselves. To do this and allow ourselves to make better choices, we have to embrace our true self. @deepakchopra says we can do so by embracing every experience of love, beauty, truth, creativity, and bliss and acknowledge that how we feel in that moment, is what our true self is made of. We merely need to sit in stillness to tap into those feelings again. This is what will help begin shifting your beliefs, attitudes, and choices. If you’re able to find fulfillment of some kind every day and begin journaling every moment that warmed your heart, raised your self esteem or added a moment of lightness to your life, you’ll see how all of this is always under your control and thus begin making the choices that will benefit and restore you vs those that won’t. #oprah #deepakchopra #meditation #restoration #healing #betterchoices

Many of us have defined self care as working out, getting our hair done, getting a massage, etc. While all of these things do play a part in self care, they are all externally focused. What we really need to do is to begin taking care of our whole self, which is comprised of the mind, body, and spirit. I know personally I’ve been on a healing journey, completely focusing on the mind and spirit, leaving the body behind. According to @deepakchopra, separations like that show that there is still resistance to healing. Now I realize that to truly heal, we need to focus on the entirety of ourselves, which encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. And in today’s meditation Deepak suggests that our internal self-care involves being easy with ourselves as we begin to shift our beliefs and put them in action. Blame and judgment have no space in our new way of thinking because negativity is incompatible with positive results. So stop all the self hate. Instead start your day in gratitude for alll that is right about you and your life. Once we stop giving our power away to negativity (internal and external), we begin to realize that we are perfect, whole and complete just as we are and without needing any external validation. And it’s a pretty sweet space to be. #oprah #deepakchopra #meditation #mindshift #internal #change #positivity #sheddingtheweight #mindbodyspirit

It’s crazy, today I woke up in the most peaceful state I’ve ever been in. My head space was quiet, just enjoying the stillness of the morning, rather than immediately running through my lists of things to do. And when I tuned in to today’s Shedding the Weight meditation, it all made sense because it was all about finding the peace within. @oprah said when we meditate, we allow ourselves time to tune into the peace inside, which creates a new, lighter self, free of hunger, frustration and any sense lack. @deepakchopra added that often we think meeting our goals of getting a better job, a better partner, more money, etc. will lead to peace and satisfaction. The truth is those wants and needs are mere distractions. When you’re in true inner peace, there are no more cravings, feelings of emptiness, or dissatisfaction. To help get us there, Deepak suggets we start from a place of respect for everyone; remaining calm and finding common ground,; uplifting and acknowledging others, rather than criticizing them, getting angry, or starting conflict; and when showered with the impulsive to show love and affection, that we do so in a way that touches the other person, whether it be a smile or a kind word. Practicing these things on the daily, will help bring thar inner peace and fulfillment into reality. #oprah #deepakchopra #sheddingtheweight #meditation #peace #innerpeace

This quote is so true. According to @deepakchopra our mind has learned to compartmentalize our good vs. our bad selves and the only way to bring that bad side of ourselves into the light of goodness, is through awareness, which is found in meditation. Meditation allows us to bring stillness, peace, and calm into our lives, which allows us to see all those negative, unresolved issues that we’ve been trying to hide with distractions. For me it’s always been food, but for you it could be shopping too much, working too much, drinking too much, etc.  They present themselves differently in everyone, but the outcome is the same.  We’re turning to external things to distract us from dealing with the real issues inside.  And the more we continue to repress and deny those negative feelings, the stronger they get, finding other ways to sabotage our life. In the stillness of meditation however, we can learn to identify those negative emotions and begin to heal.  Healing is a natural state of being for our bodies.  Deepak asks us to think of how quickly our bodies jump into action when we cut our finger.  It immediately starts trying to stop you from bleeding, to allow healing, and make you whole again. The same is true here.  The body is eagerly waiting for you to get out of it’s way so that it can get rid of all the negativity that is keeping you stuck, so that it can begin healing, and make you whole again. How amazing is that! So let’s get out of our own way so that we can get unstuck, and move past what was, to what can be. BTW I had a moment of negativity that I was able to work through in just a few minutes today because of this series. Great quote don’t you think? As I mentioned yesterday, our body yearns to be balanced. We just have to allow enough stillness and awareness in to get us there. However, when we choose to judge our actions as either good or bad, we’re creating an internal separation/void that then seeks to be filled/healed by external indulgences, which leaves us in a weak,.victimized state. According to @deepakchopra however we are always the healer of every burden we carry. Once we acknowledge that and accept the truth behind it, we let go of.victimization and get our power back to heal all our problems. Stillness and awareness are key in this process, which is where meditation is our biggest ally. So healer, heal thyself 😉 #oprah #deepakchopra #sheddingtheweight #meditation #healing #stillness #carolinemyss #quote

Living in the present is where it’s at. It is what holds our power. When we look at the past, or worry about the future, we allow doubt, uncertainty, and a sense of lack to take away our power, allowing weakness and victimization in. But as @deepakchopra reminds us, every part of our being was created to flourish in the present, starting with our cells. If they lived in the past or worrying about the future, we would be gone in no time because they wouldn’t be taking care of our everyday body functions or reminding us to eat, drink, sleep, etc. So we need to stop fighting our body’s natural, effortless rhythm and join it in the beauty and joy of the present. Cheers to a beautiful, happy life lived in the present! #oprah #deepakchopra #sheddingtheweight #meditation #liveinthepresent #liveinthemoment

Breakthroughs are made when you chose the response you want to have vs. letting a habit choose for you. And although habits seem hard to break because we’ve been doing them for years, they were made by us, so we always have the power to break them. To help, @deepakchopra suggests we narrate our habits in the 3rd person to see ourselves from the outside and allow awareness in, as we begin to change our negative habits, to positive ones, by rewriting our narrative around it. And the more we celebrate these small breakthroughs, the more we help our brain reprogram it’s responses. This expanded consciousness gives us the freedom to be our most powerful selves, and meditation allows us to be aware of the freedom that comes with choices. Once we make a new choice we’re on the road to our next best step, which aides in our transformation. #oprah #deepakchopra #sheddingtheweight #meditation #freedom #choices #transformation

I don’t know about you but I feel lighter and transformed already.  It’s becoming clear to me just how much I control my own life.  For my recap of the last week of this series, Life is a choice, click here.
