Nothing says Halloween to me like candy corn. While I can really only eat a few pieces of it, I used it as my inspiration in making these rice krispie, candy corn inspired, Halloween treats.
How can you go wrong with some festive rice krispie Halloween treats right? Plus they’re perfect to add to your Halloweenscape or to take to all the Halloween parties you’ve been invited to. And the added bonus is that they’re super easy to make and travel extremely well.
Ingredients:
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 (10 oz) bag marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- red and yellow food coloring
Directions:
Select a 10″ round container/pan (I used my 10″ cast iron skillet), and line it with wax paper.
For the first layer, in a microwave safe bowl large enough to hold both the melted marshmallows and rice krispies, pour in 1 cup of marshmallows, and top with a 1/2 tbsp of butter.
Place into the microwave and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between each, until the marshmallows have melted.
Stir in a cup of rice krispies until coated, place it in the center of your 10″ round, and form a circle (wet your hands with water to keep the mixture from sticking to your hands as you form the circle).
Place it in fridge until you’re ready for the next layer.
For the next layer add in 2 cups of marshmallows into your microwave safe bowl and top with 1 1/2 tbsp of butter. Once melted, stir in a few drops of red food coloring, followed by several more drops of yellow food coloring to create your favorite shade of orange (I used 4 red drops and 12 yellow drops to create my shade of orange).
Now add in 2 cups of rise krispies and mix until they’re all evenly coated with the orange marshmallow melt.
Place this layer around the circle already in your 10″ round. Again, wet your hands to help mold it into a circle, and place back in the fridge when done.
For the last layer add in 3 cups of marshmallows into your microwave safe bowl and top with 2 tbsp of butter. Once melted, stir in several drops of yellow food coloring until the right shade of yellow is reached (I used 10 drops).
Then add in 3 cups of rise krispies and mix until all are evenly coated with the yellow marshmallow melt.
Place this layer around the the orange layer and allow it all to set in the fridge.
Once set cut into it like you would a pie
and enjoy your Candy Corn inspired Halloween treats.
Here’s a quick video if you need more.
Not a bad Trick-or-Treat if you ask me. Plus they’re adorable enough to place on any Halloween dessert/food table.
What are your favorite Halloween treats?
