This trip that included double of everything you see in my cart.  First, some Beneful® Healthy Weight for my doggies, which like the rest of us, tend to pick up a little weight during the holidays.

Beneful® Baked Delights® Stars™ with bacon & cheese, because it’s nice to have a a holiday themed snack for the ornament party.

Once you’ve stocked up on items for your four-legged friends, it’s time to head to the grocery section to stock up on items for your friends and family.  It’s also a great time to turn your attention to the supplies needed for the DIY Paw Print Ornament.  While most of the supplies needed are pantry stables, with all the holiday cooking and baking, I’d hate for you to run out.  So make sure you have enough of each of the following items, which yield 3-4 ornaments out of the following measurements.

Supplies:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1/4-1/2 cup water
straw
round cookie cutter or glass container
parchment paper/wax paper & plastic wrap
paint
ribbon

Directions:

Before your guests arrive, mix the salt and flour in a bowl.

Then add in the water, little by little, until you’re able to knead the dough into a firm ball.

Make as many batches as needed, wrap them in plastic wrap, and store them in your fridge until you’re ready to use. Then once you and your guests are ready to begin the DIY project, preheat the oven to 200 degrees F.  Remove the dough from the fridge and plastic wrap, lay it out on parchment paper/wax paper (add a little flour as needed), and use a rolling pin to roll it out to 1/4 to 1/2″ thick.

With a cookie cutter or glass, cut out a large enough circle to fit your pet’s paw (feel free to dust with flour as needed).

Gently press your dog’s paw into the center of the cut-out dough.

Poke a hole at the top center of the dough using a drinking straw.

Bake ornaments for 2-3 hours (or until completely dry) at 200 degrees F, on a lightly floured greased cookie sheet to help prevent the dough from spreading and thinning out during baking.

Allow the ornaments to cool completely and decorate as desired.  I used white spray paint and a black marker on mine.

Then thread the ribbon through the hole, and voila! Your decorative paw print ornament is ready to be admired.**

  1. These are super cute! What a great idea. Our doggies are no longer with us but this would have been so nice to see again every Christmas! Maybe I’ll be brace (or crazy) and try to make one for the cat!!!

    • Awe Nadine, I lost a doggy last year and wish I would have done this for her. That’s why I’m happy I was able to do it for my 2 remaining pups and offer something similar to my friends and family. Good luck with your kitty. 😀

  2. These paw print ornaments seem really popular this year- I just might give making them a try. I’ll definitely be spoiling my pets with this Purina offer though! #client
