One of the most heart breaking things I’ve ever seen and experienced in my life is being in the presence of a child who doesn’t know where their next meal will come from. And unfortunately that was not an experience I had while on a mission to a third world country. It’s something I’ve experienced here, in our very own neighborhoods. It’s because of this that I’m happily partnering with Albertsons Safeway and Hunger Is to share what they’re doing this month (September 1-30, 2015) to help end child hunger.
Thankfully, growing up, I never felt like we went without. In fact, I grew up thinking we were well off because unlike several classmates, I can’t remember a time when we didn’t have food on the table. It was heart breaking and confusing, even as a child, to know that hunger wasn’t just an issue that touched far away lands, but was in my neighborhood and touched many of my classmates. Unfortunately this still holds true in neighborhoods across America and affects 1 in 5 children, … yes 1 in 5.
Thankfully organizations like Albertsons Safeway want to help support charitable events and give back to our communities. And in this case, they’re offering two easy ways to help the Hunger Is program, whose mission is to help connect hungry kids in our neighborhoods to healthy food.
So what can you do to help? Visit your neighborhood Albertsons Safeway grocer (Albertsons, Safeway, Randalls, Vons, Pavilions, Jewel-Osco, United Supermarkets, Tom Thumb, Acme, Star Market, Shaws, Carrs / Safeway, Market Street & Amigos) and shop the brands you love:
- Con Agra – Marie Calender’s, Healthy Choice, Bertolli’s and PF Changs brands
- Coke
- Unilever
- Kellogg’s
- Campbell’s
Any purchase of a participating product earns a meal and supports Hunger Is. How easy is that? I know I loved seeing it in the Randalls ad when I went to visit my friend in Austin and made a nice shopping trip out of it.
Want to do a little more. If you live in the Eastern, Intermountain, Northern California, Southwest, Shaws/Star division of Alberstons Safeway then you’ll be able to participate in a donation campaign at the register, where shoppers will be asked at check out if they would like to donate to the Hunger Is fundraiser.
Super easy, convenient, and all for a great cause.
So which Alberstons Safeway grocer will you be visiting to give back and help Hunger Is end child hunger?
