Awe familia (family), they’re the best no? The nostalgia and memories of our time together always find a way to fill our soul. And for me, many of my memories are centered around food. That’s why I’m all about creating easy to make meals and snacks like this simple berry parfait.
From parties, to dinners, to those late afternoon meriendas (snacks), I have several fond memories of my family – both extended and immediate – eating, laughing, and catching up on life. It’s our connection to these memories that make us want to pass down our family recipes and family traditions to the next generation.
I think that’s also the reason they say la cocina (the kitchen) is the heart of the home. No matter who’s home you walk into, inevitably you’ll end up hovering around the kitchen. That’s why being able to whip up quick and easy meals has always been appealing to me, and why Cheerios™ has become a staple in my house. They’re an easy option for breakfast, on-the-go snacks, or as toppers on anything you want a good wholesome crunch on. I think that’s why every kid in our family knows them by name.
So now, as we gather after school or on the weekends, when that need for something sweet kicks in, I like to turn to this simple berry parfait. It’s so fácil de hacer (easy to make) that you have more time to catch up. And that’s what it’s all about.
Simple Berry Parfait Ingredients & How to Build It
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate it: yogurt, mixed berries (we used frozen), & Cheerios ™ (choose your fav – we used Honey Nut Cheerios™)
Build each layer by adding some yogurt to the bottom of your parfait container, top with mixed berries, and Cheerios ™. Repeat until you reach the top (mine took 3 layers).
Easy, breezy, and totally yummilicious.
Now it’s your turn. To help, General Mills has launched the Cereal con Cariño (Cereal with Love) campaign to not only celebrate El Mes de la Herencia Hispana (Hispanic Heritage Month), but to continue the conversation on como demostramos cariño con comida (how to demonstrate love with food). They’re even offering a $1 off coupon on your next cereal purchase here. Just click the link to get yours and while you’re there, check out some other fab recipes and their video series featuring my friend Jeannette Kaplun.
Here’s mine.
Enjoy!
