As a girl who’s visited Napa I can tell you that we’ve got our very own hidden treasure just up the road. Our Texas Wine Country offers fab wines & amazing backdrops. If you’re a wine lover and haven’t been, I definitely think you should.
Not only is the Texas HIll Country beautiful, but it’s the gateway to th Texas Wine Country. Those same rugged hills of limestone and granite that tower over our beautiful valleys, provide everything that grape vines need to create savory wine. And the over 40 wineries are not only ready to serve you, but willing to provide a tour and share how they make their wine. It’s really a nice experience.
For the past couple of years my friends and I have been taking advantage of the Texas Hill Country Wineries October Tasting Passport to tour the award-winning wineries all month long. Every weekend we set out to explore new locations and we always leave with new faves.
Here are our top finds to date.
Favorite Fredericksburg Wineries
Grape Creek Vineyards
Grape Creek is a beautiful, old world looking winery offering award winning wines, a beautifully manicured estate, and restaurant. A definite must stop if you don’t go to any others. It’s a great spot to gather with friends, over a great bottle a wine.
4.0 Cellars
It’s a collaboration between three Texas wineries – Brennan Vineyards, Lost Oak Winery, and McPherson Cellars – located across Texas. They have a beautiful, modern tasting room with a variety of wines to sample, an amazing outdoor space, food, and music. What more can you ask for?
And while not a winery, anytime you’re near Fredericksburg, you need to stop by Luckenbach for a little bit of Texas history and lots of good music.
Favorite Driftwood Wineries
Driftwood Estate Winery
This beautiful estate is between Dripping Springs & Wimberley and offers Mediterranean style wines.
Regardless of whether that’s your taste, you have to stop for the amazing hilltop views overlooking the vineyard. Simply beautiful.
Duchman Family Winery
The Duchman Family Winery is Tuscan inspired, with manicured gardens, and a full scale restaurant. It not only offers great wines, but amazing views too.
Favorite Dripping Springs Winery
Solaro Estate
If you love red wine, Solaro is a must stop. The wines are delicious and the ambassadors are very knowledgeable.
Favorite Off the Beaten Path Wineries
Sister Creek Vineyard
Sister Creek offers award winning, European-style wines. If you blink you might miss the little town it’s in, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled. It’s definitely worth the drive off the beaten path.
Narrow Path Winery
Narrow Path is nestled in the hills with spectacular views. It’s definitely a great place to kick back and enjoy a glass or two. Plus it’s close to a dance hall.
Whether you decide to make a weekend of it or just head up for the day, your mind, body and spirit will thank you for taking time to hit those Texas back roads. Not only will your eyes be pleased by the amazing backdrops, but so will your senses with fab wines.
