Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post, but Market on Houston San Antonio did provide all the yummy treats we enjoyed at the soft opening, along with a dinner for 2 for one of my lucky readers. However all views and opinions about the yumminess are strictly my own.
Recently I was honored to have been invited to attend the Market on Houston’s soft opening (They are scheduled to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner starting April 1st). From the beginning, we were made to feel welcomed and once we were led to the table, we were excited to learn that we were going to get a wonderfully unique restaurant experience.
The Market on Houston experience starts with an amazing wait staff, who’s happy to share their knowledge of everything related to the restaurant, including the super fun and easy to navigate digital menu. It’s the first time I’ve seen one used and it not only has the list of menu items, but you can click on each listing to see a picture of the food. Then, if a particular item sells out, it will automatically drop off the menu so that in coming guests won’t be disappointed at missing out on one of their tasty treats.
Executive Chef, Rudy Martinez, shared that most of their ingredients are Texas farmed and all can be made with any food allergies in mind (gluten-free welcomed). We also learned that they are going to hold a farmer’s market once a month, just outside their restaurant, to make it easy for downtown living San Antonians to enjoy local fare in their neighborhood. Along with well priced sit down meals, their grab and go deli set up inside the restaurant allows busy professionals the option to drop in and pick up deliciousness to go in under 20 minutes. A win, win I think and a greatly needed concept for downtown living and visiting.
Once we learned all about what they had to offer, we were invited to try as many dishes as we could muster and that we did. We tried almost everything – the Shrimp and Scallop Ceviche,
Portabella fries,
Truffle fries,
Wild Mushroom Flatbread,
Braised Short Ribs,
Southern Lamb Pops,
1909 Burger (year the Sheraton Gunther hotel was founded and a fab burger)
and lemon cake balls for dessert.
It was a true foodgasm not only to the eyes, but to our happy bellies.
Needless to say, the BF (boyfriend) and I had a wonderful night, enjoying good eats, great company and an overall good time. Before we even took our last bite, we had already made up our mind to return to this super friendly, wonderfully welcoming, yummy producing restaurant.
